Geocache Success Stories following the Trapper Dan "The Bear Essentials" Audio Tour
I started this blog as a place for people who have found one of the geocache locations on their trip to Alaska could post their stories. After all, you've earned bragging rights for finding one of these nuggets thousands of miles from your home and the world should know about it. I'll post a few success stories below to get you started.
In the spring I'll head out down the road and reset my "trap line" and make sure that the cache locations are registered at geocaching.com for those who want to post their successes there as well. In the meantime, post your stories and pictures below and feel free to download the free maps and artwork from my Trapper Dan " The Bear Essentials" C.D. under the "Geocaching maps" button or from the "nifty cool free stuff" link. Click on the "view log" and "photo" links below to see the happy geocachers.

Fairly easy find...the trick to "muggle-less" timing is to go in late September! The top of the water bottle is broken and doesn't seal well. I'll email the cache owner for maintenance...TNLN.

Great view from this area. I had no problems finding the cache but right after I grabbed the cache I found out it would be tricky to put it back. This spot seems to be a favorite stopping spot for the tour busses. One after another buss stopped when I tried to put the cache back. So not wanting dozens of muggles to see me put it back I wandered around waiting for them to move on. It took about a hour for me to have an opening between busses to get the chance to put the cache back. Quick to find but the longest to put back that I have ever done. It was fun anyway.

Another wonderful spot to stop and you might as well get a cache while you are at it. At this location just about all us geocaches conversed here. There were at least 4 different cars of us and this was one spot we all seemed to be at together on our trek to the Yukon Territory. This was our first cache in this territory and it was such a wonderful trip getting here. Thanks for placing a cache here.
This was part of our visit out west from WV. We had a ton of fun. Landed in Seattle and went south first and did the Stash Cache. Then worked our way back from Oregon to Seattle for an Alaska cruise for a week. Then got off the cruise after a week and did the Ape Event followed by all the Woodstock 8 and HQ things. Only wish we had more time to explore all these area's even more. Did I mention all the gr8 people we met along the way and all the friends from back home we ran into during this trip. This was find 2764 overall for us.

After I found the cache, our tour guide, Misty, asked, "Did you just find that container over there?" This led to me explaining geocaching to the entire bus and us excitedly racing off to the next cache, where a bunch of people from the bus joined in the search. Quick find, but a little tough to reach this one. This is where we realized that Trapper Dan is a musician and we could have been listening to his CD all the way from Whitehorse to Skagawy and back. A little too late since we were almost back already. TFTC

What a perfect way to spend our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We were on the NCL Pearl and rented a car to venture into the Yukon. Such a beautiful drive. Wish I could have stayed forever. Saw 3 adult bears and 3 bear cubs on the drive. Glad we could grab a cache too! TFTC!

We are on an Alaskan cruise. What trip would be complete without some geocaching? We rented a car in Skagway and headed out for Carcross. This is our first find in the Yukon. Wonderful scenery. Signed log. Thanks for the find.

Found this today and are SO thrilled, it's our first and unfortunately only Yukon cache. Our bus tour guy picked a couple of amazing spots to stop on our way from Skagway to Carcross. Very pleased we got this one as the others were unattemptable. It's in good condition. TFTC.

Heading to Skagway we stopped by to hunt this lonely cache. Very well executed hide. The new numbers had the GPSr arrow pointing right to the hiding spot. We Tn-LN save our mark in the logbook. Thanks for a quality hide, we enjoyed it all.

Thanks for the update on your co-ordinates. My GPS was eaten by my dog and I'm going to blame the dog for my out of wack co-ordinates ( it's always better to blame technology than to take responsibility for not knowing how to use it properly ). Try these numbers to take you right to the cache.

first to find. Had trouble at first as even your new coordinates are off - the hint helped me find it. My GPS read N60 06.795 W 134 33.435. You also need a log book - just wrote on the info sheet

This was the first day with our pickup-camper in the Yukon. First we needed some practice with our car. But this cache was at our way to Skagway so we stopped for some minutes and we found the box without problems. We dropped a TB in the cache. Start of the long drive from Skagway to Anchorage caching all the way, only a short hop to Whitehorse this evening after a days rail fanning on the wonderful and stunning Y&WPRR. Searched long and hard with no luck, like the real thing which i didn't see on this visit to Alaska this one eluded me. |

Quick and easy found for our oldest son this morning. There was more than enough water in the creek after this nights rain. This entry was edited by Humpys on Sunday, 11 July 2010 at 13:38:00. |

Yay! found it and returned for that camp out May long weekend! |

Had granny and the little one out to try to find this one, to no avail. Nice intro to the scape beyond Whitehorse and we know where we'll be returning to for a camping interlude. |

A lovely mild evening to do some geocaching. The coordinates seemed off a bit - obviously Gerome the wonder dog found the same. There is no need to dig around in snow for this one. We re read the description, ignored the GPS and found the cache. We took a lite key chain and a graduation hat key chain and left a pooping bear and some hand warmers. TFTC |
|
|
We were unable to find this one under the snow. To many trees to dig under..:) will re visit in summer. |

I found it! I found it! I found it! Finally! This one has been driving me crazy - 2 DNFs and a couple of other casual stops I never logged. I've read the logs over many times, checked the pictures and spent some time thinking about it. I was sure it had to be in one of two places. This time I got out of the car, left my Garmin in it, walked over and had the cache in about 10 seconds. Within inches of where I thought it was. I was sure I had looked there before...maybe my angle was wrong or something, or maybe I've just spent so long looking around there that I'm inventing memories. I'm a bit embarrassed that it took me so long to find it; I gain comfort from the fact that others had some problems too. So thanks for the fun. Glad I got it on Saturday as on Sunday the weather turned to total garbage (I don't mind snow at all - I hate that wet slop masquerading as snow). Took nothing, left a flashlight. My second try at this one, still no luck. Gonna try again tomorrow on my way out of town. No rain today, that was a bonus! |

My first DNF .... I suspect it has more to do with my inexperience, than the cache. My GPS was be-bopping all over the place, so I just wandered around for awhile, searching. I can happily spend large amounts of time, enjoying the sound of a fast moving creek. Had to finally move along, the rain was getting more intense and I was wet and cold. (Maybe a jacket next time??) Sure was nice down there, great interlude between the drive and the bustle of the city. I will be back in Whitehorse in a few weeks and will give it another try then. (Once I do find the cache, will the hint make sense to me?) |
|

was sad to leave Whitehorse in the rearview. but i was getting hustled along by Tinman4x and made this one a quickie. |

Late evening and we were scouting lodging for the night and detoured to hunt the cache. We also found the numbers to be a bit off but with thourough searching we made the find.
