Foolish Things is the first song that I've ever recorded professionally in a studio. The lyrics came about from an overheard conversation while having a coffee in the local donut shop early one morning. The song eventually became the main title for the Bucks & Honey, Foolish Things CD. I hope you enjoy the song.
Foolish Things Lyrics
Lyrics and music by Daniel Halen
Another day at the doughnut shop
same old faces as the cars pull up
same old stories just a different day
and a guy said “Man did I get drunk last night
stole a car got in a fight”
some folks are never gonna change
no, no, never, never, never gonna change.
Pass the sugar and the cream
and I’ll continue with my dream
of the day when the kings and queens
don’t play the pawn so foolishly
everybody’s got someone
mother, father, daughter, son
and happy is the fool
happy is the fool
When the sands run by and times not at your side
you’ll stop to think about the things you never tried
and if you had a chance you’d start it all anew
do all those foolish things you swore you’d never do
swore you’d ever do
I can see it through a mirror’s view
and I jest at my creation
it’s a story that you’ve heard before
and you know how it’s gonna end
draw a card, throw it at the wind
why’s the joker always grin?
often I’m the fool
often I’m the fool
When the sands run by and times not at your side
you’ll stop to think about the things you never tried
and if you had a chance you’d start it all anew
do all those foolish things you swore you’d never do
swore you’d ever do
Another day at the doughnut shop
same old faces as the cars pull up
same old Stories just a different day
and a guy said “Man did I get drunk last night
stole a car got in a fight”
some folks are never gonna change
no, no, never, never, never gonna change.
When the sands run by and times not at your side
you’ll stop to think about the things you never tried
and if you had a chance you’d start it all anew
do all those foolish things you swore you’d never do
swore you’d ever do
