Livin' 867, from the Trapper Dan - The Bear Essentials CD, is probably one of the most difficult songs I have ever had to play and sing at the same time when I first wrote it. Don Bishop and I were deliberately messing around with modality and tri tones in order to make up a song that was off the beaten path in many ways. Much like living up here, off the beaten path. The chords are a fairly straight forward country/blues/jazz style played ala Freddy Green with ascending and descending tri-tones modal syncopations. It's the intersecting motifs from out of left field that I play between each phrase that I was falling over for the longest time. I could either play them, or sing the words. It was this "doing it all together" thing that I found difficult. Lyrically, Livin' 867 is about the Yukon Territory's phone number area code and the strange things that attract people to this part of Canada as well as their habits and recreational activities. In this case it happens to be about partying and drinking. I find that a lot of my songs are about drinking and partying. That's pretty funny since I don't drink at all. Really! I don't. Yet about 25% of my songs have this element to them. I feel like Dean Martin : - ) I hope you enjoy Livin' 867 and can appreciate the humor and of the song.
Livin’ 867 Lyrics
Lyrics and music by: Daniel Halen, Don Bishop
Livin’ 867, little piece Heaven in the northern hemisphere
under the midnight sun drinkin’ ice cold Chilkoot beer
turn the music loud, you’re sure to get a crowd that can party hardy
all night long
digin’ the beat baby singing along with the song
chorus
we’re gonna’ pick you up?
We’re gonno party down
we’re gonna’ stand you up
spin you ‘round
party 24/7 when the sun just never goes down
we go fishin’ and a hiking’ a lot mountain biking in the land we hold so dear
with carry bear spray but we really ain’t got no fear
on a midnight paddle it’s really just a prattle with the friends we’ve
met up here
Johnny Walker, Glen Livit, Jack Daniels, end Ever Clear
livin’ 867, little piece Heaven in the northern hemisphere
under the midnight sun drinkin’ ice cold Chilkoot beer
turn the music loud, you’re sure to get a crowd that can party hardy
all night long
digin’ the beat baby singing along with the song
