I wrote Tears In The River several years ago as a result of the Hurricane Katrina disaster that devastated much of the Southern United States on August 23rd 2005. With all of the experience many the people in the Southern US have had with severe storms up until that dreadful day, a large number of people stayed in their homes prepared to ride it out like any other storm. Many lost all of what they owned and more than a thousand people lost their lives in this event. Living thousands of miles from the storm up here in Northern Canada, I couldn't help but think of how we are all affected and connected by the waters of the world and every river and stream no matter where it originates will eventually flow out to the calm of the sea. I spend much of my time traveling the rivers and lakes and the power and force of the wind and water always serve to humble me and causes me to have great respect for the weather systems around our planet. I dedicate Tears In The River to the people of New Orleans and Southern US who lived through Katrina Hurricane and to those who perished in her wake. We are all connected at many levels.
Tears in the River Lyrics
Words and music by Daniel Halen
Word went out, heavy sea’s are rollin’ in
Without a doubt, they all knew it was sink or swim
There were screams and shouts, it’s the worst it’s ever been
Mother Nature’s 911, you had to go through Hell to get to Heaven
Why did you stay, knowing full well that your last day
would be Hell, or did you think there’s no other way
‘cause if you ain’t got nothin’ you got nothin’ to loose
I hope you found the time to pray
Mother Nature’s 911, you had to go through Hell to get to Heaven
I’m still shakin’ from what I’ve seen
My heart’s breakin, inside of me
Tear in the river flow to the sea
Tears in the river flow you to me
Tear in the river flow to the sea
Tears in the river flow you to me
Why did you stay, knowing full well that your last day
would be Hell, or did you think there’s no other way
‘cause if you ain’t got nothin’ you got nothin’ to loose
I hope you found the time to pray
Mother Nature’s 911, you had to go through Hell to get to Heaven
Word went out, heavy seas are rolling in.
